Are you tired of how your lawn looks? Or, do you want to add some flare to your lawn when spring comes? Our customers in Nixa, Missouri for landscape can all agree, everyone wants a beautiful lawn to accentuate a beautiful home. So, we’ve put together some simple, easy landscaping tips to help your yard look incredible!
A little Clean-up goes a Long Way The start to any great landscaping project begins with the not-so fun part. Clean up! Mowing, cleaning up fallen branches, dead plants, and getting rid of anything that you don’t see being a part of your new landscaping vision is an important step to getting your beautiful dream yard. Find a Focal Point First things first, what do you want to be the focus point of your yard? Does your yard have a big item that directs attention? Whether it’s a fire pit, a nice outdoor seating area, or even a large tree, starting with your main area is a great way to figure out which way you want to go with the rest of your landscaping design. Add a Flowerbed Flowerbeds are a relatively easy, as well as attractive addition to any yard! And if you have a green thumb and an eye for color, a very fun weekend project. Flowerbeds are great for curb appeal because their placement is flexible. You can place them around mailboxes, along the side of your house, or around a main focal point of your yard, such as the previously mentioned. Even a small flowerbed with the right mix of color can make a huge difference! Freshen up your yard with fresh mulch Old, weathered mulch can really drag down your curb appeal. A fresh layer of gravel, dark mulch, or even sand is an easy way to get your yard looking fresh again, with the added benefit of protection your plants and preventing weed growth! Plant Native Flowers- If you’d like to opt for a cheaper option with far less maintenance, try planting flowers native to your region! There are a lot of benefits to planting native plants, such as their ability to adapt to our climate and soil, requiring little to no irrigation, and usually having no need for fertilizers or pesticides. Not to mention, they’re good for the bees! For us, in Nixa, Missouri we have a lot of beautiful flowers to choose from, such as Black-eyed Susan, Missouri primrose, Butterfly milkweed, Purple cone-flowers, and many more! We hope we gave you some great ideas in this week’s blog. EQUIPMENT Another advantage of hiring a lawn care company is their access to specialized equipment. Mowing companies spend large amounts of time and invest lots of money to ensure that they have the best tools to tackle nearly any landscape or lawn care job. This means that your lawn benefits by having work done by quality machinery that is designed to perform well. Things like commercial decking systems on mowers, which provide better airflow for grass and are engineered to minimize scalping the turf, help keep things green and healthy week after week. 3. EFFICIENT What could be better than coming home from work after a long day and having nothing to do to your outdoor space but enjoy it? Are you thinking of beautifying your landscape? Regardless of how small or large the space you may have, there are some vital elements to know prior to calling your landscape designer. Enumerated here below are the six vital elements that need your consideration prior to landscaping. How You Want It To Be? Usually, landscape designers have good insight and creative ideas of beautifying the space. They will see your space, sketch up a design which will turn your home’s outer area into a practical and stylish place. It will yield maximum results if you provide as much detail as possible to the landscaping professionals in order to make the procedure smooth. Landscaping designers will have sample designs for garden/ lawn area, deck/ verandah space. You can select from them and customize according to your need. You will also get great ideas from magazines that are published on home improvement and related subjects. If you know what exactly you need and how your garden or deck area should look like, you can share your ideas with a landscaping professional to get your desired landscape. What Size Your Landscape Is? You need to give exact measurements of the space to the landscaping professional so that they know about how much area they need to work with. This is vital because a landscape professional will quote you as per the size of the total area. What Materials You Want? You need to decide with what materials you need to augment the look of your open space. For instance, you can choose from fence post or gate posts or a combination of fence and gate posts, pyramid or pier caps, balusters and fencing, wall caps, square columns etc. How Is Your Lifestyle? Are you staying with a joint family along with your grandparents and parents? A couple who would prefer spending time with each other in the garden space in the evenings? Or are you leading a busy life where you will not get adequate time to take care of your landscape and so would rather prefer a landscape that needs low-maintenance? A landscape design is to be considered on the utility of the space. For instance, families with children will require a lawn and an open area to play and to get together for a dinner party whereas a couple would like a calm haven with water fountain and trouble free paving. However, don’t forget to consider your future requirements while designing your landscape area. How Much You Can Spend? You need to figure out what budget you have for investing in your landscaping project. Landscaping professionals are creative enough for designing cost-effective areas; still they would need to know about your budget to offer you a fitting solution as per your need. You need to keep adequate provisions for materials, labour and maintenance costs. How to Finalize a Landscaping Professional? You want your landscape project to be completed fittingly and so you would certainly want to hire a qualified and experienced landscape designer or architect. You can ask them for some samples of their past works and client contact details. Check their professional credentials and insurances and above everything else make sure they grasp your idea. Image courtesy of FeelArt at Freedigitalimages.net Article published with permission from Otherarticles.com Whether you have a brand new, precision mowing machine, or an older work horse, lawn mowers need to be tuned up in the spring. While many people rely on services or shops in the Springfield area to do these tasks for them, some people may want to attempt to do their own maintenance at home. Whichever option you choose, here are the basics of what will likely need to be done for a spring lawn mower tune up. Gasoline If gasoline is left over the winter months, it can become stale or retain moisture. Using bad gasoline in your mower can result in rust and a carburetor that doesn't run smoothly. To ensure that your gas is good, consider draining out the old and replacing it with fresh. Blades Having properly sharpened blades, that are in good repair, on your lawn mower is essential for a healthy lawn. Inspect blades for any nicks as well as for dullness. Replace or sharpen as required. Oil Having fresh, well filled oil will help your lawn equipment function properly and can even extend the life of equipment. For two cycle engines, such as some string trimmers and blowers, be sure that the oil is mixed with gasoline to the correct ratio and topped off. Your equipment owner's manual, or instructions printed on the machine will usually give you this information. For four cycle engines, such as most lawn mowers, draining the oil and/or performing an oil change before adding new oil is a great idea. Air Filter Mowing equipment needs proper airflow to the engine in order to perform at its best. To make sure that your machinery is getting this airflow, take the time to inspect, and replace if necessary, the air filter. As a rule of thumb, air filters that do not show light through them likely need to be replaced. Spark Plugs Replacing the spark plugs on your lawn equipment can be an inexpensive and easy way to increase their performance. Even if a spark plug has not completely gone out, it is often a great idea to install a new one each spring season as part of routine maintenance. Wash & Clean Hopefully, when you stored your mower for the winter, you took time to clean off the old grass. If you didn't, or if your machinery accumulated dirt and dust while in storage, spend a little time washing and cleaning it. For hard to remove grass that is built up, try a wire brush and some good old fashion elbow grease. There you have it! A quick guide to recommended spring maintenance! If you find that all this upkeep is a bit too time consuming and you are considering trading in your mowing equipment for a great Springfield or Nixa lawn care service, we would love to have the chance to earn your business. Image provided by Rawich from FreeDigitalPhotos.net The endless snow and bitter cold that has been our Springfield, Missouri winter is finally coming to an end and Spring seems to have finally arrived! With bulbs popping out of the ground and grass beginning to show some hues of green, here are some quick tips to help you get your lawn ready for a Missouri spring! #1. Assess Your Lawn Winter months that are particularly wet and harsh can leave your yard with damage, such as low spots, bare patches, or washed away landscaping. Take time in the early spring to assess what needs your lawn has and make a plan to repair them. #2. Reseed if Needed If you find that your yard has bare patches of dirt, or areas where the grass is thinner than you would like, do a springtime reseed. Start by aerating the area, then spread the seeds as required. Some grass seeds require later planting dates than others, so be sure to check the label instructions for zone planting dates for the Springfield, Missouri area. Once planted, be sure to keep the ground moist where the seeds are beginning to sprout. #3. Fertilize New grass seedlings, as well as established lawn areas, will perform much better if they are fertilized during the spring months. We recommend a slow release, low nitrogen fertilizer for most soil and grass types. Be careful not to over do it, though! Too much fertilization can burn your soil and do more harm than good. Stick with the 1lb nitrogen per 1,000 square foot rule to be safe. #4. Get Your Mower Ready While the temperatures and seasonal weather patterns will determine when to begin mowing each year, it is always a great idea to have your mowing equipment or lawn service company all ready to go, should mother nature make her warm weather debut earlier than usual. For those who mow their own lawns, be sure to have your blades sharpened and your mowing equipment inspected with maintenance duties performed to ensure a proper operation. If you hire a lawn care company, contact them and arrange for your yard to be included in their schedule.
